Disable Print Preview in Chrome for Windows

Chrome

For some strange reason Google have made the Print Preview in Chrome mandatory in the latest update. While there is no setting option to disable the print preview you can do it with a program launch switch –disable-print-preview.

In simple terms find the Chrome shortcut on your desktop right click and select properties. In the “Target” box at the end add –disable-print-preview (be sure to include two spacess after exe). Click OK.

Now launch Chrome using this shortcut. The print preview is now disabled. If you had Chrome pinned on the taskbar unpin it, launch via the edited shortcut and then re-pin.

It bloody works, I have asked that you be knighted for services against Google .

I’ve tried every variation I can think of – re-booted, etc. and all I get is Google can’t find error message when I try to launch with your suggestion .. like google intentionally makes this solution not work …

  • Andy Gambles

Bill,Google can’t find what? You need to give exact error messages.

Initially when I did it, it did not work try again  making SURE you have a double space after the "

this didn’t work for me, this print preview is really winding me up, I have put in the spaces, I take it I put in the hyphens as well?

Since my post I finally got it to work "C:Documents and SettingsWilliam Van RooLocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe"  –disable-print-preview

The Fix works just as said on the tin. Don’t forget to delete any old Chrome shortcuts as these will still take you to print preview – Your the Dogs Andy

    thank you!!! this works!!

  • Ron

Nice that it works for some.  I have tried it 20 + times to no avail.   Guess I have not yet  used the right combination of letters and spaces.   Ron

When you make the change to your shortcut make sure you use THAT shortcut to launch Chrome with.I have seen some users alter the Chrome shortcut on their desktop but use the shortcut on the taskbar or in the programs menu.Alter the shortcut on your desktop and use that to launch chrome. You can delete the shortcut on your task bar and then replace it with the desktop shortcut if you prefer.

This works! Thanks, the print preview feature in Chrome is the most pointless feature ever introduced.. I’m surprised they have kept it in this long..

  • legalOWS

Wow! Thanks mate. This worked wonderfully. I un-pinned the chrome program, closed it, then searched for “chrome” in the windows 7 start menu, then hit “properties” on the first chrome icon, added the “space space” and then the switch “–disable-print-preview,” and closed, searched again for “chrome,” clicked on it, re-pinned, and hit “cntrl-p” and viola, it works. These are the instructions provided, but maybe the additional detail will help others saying this doesn’t work. It works perfectly.

well, it worked until today. Now that flag no longer works. It goes through another print|preview screen and you have to click a link to use the Windows print dialog box, which really sucks. All of my apps automatically select the right printer based on my network (Windows 7 does this for you) but no… not Google Chrome. It pulls up the last used printer even if that printer isn’t on this network. Genius Google, pure genius.

yes same experience here - love fact the many hours (wasted) finally getting the result last time have been gutted by our google friends (and I hate the new layout of the email printout) … Please keep me posted if you find a "new"solution

Yes they have changed the layout and unfortunately I have not yet found a workaround for this.
